Disc Golf frisbee fun in Queenstown gardens
Travellers and locals are no strangers to all the adventures Queenstown has to offer. Proudly known as the extreme sports capital of the world you’d think flying people land on the lake and rugby fields all the time. This happens to be true with paragliders, skydivers and overall adrenaline junkies that make this little town a must when coming to New Zealand. Yet there’s more to do than jumping from a cliff or tying yourself to a swing on steroids, and this is the Queenstown Frisbee Golf course. Try Queenstown Disc golf, Located South of town in the Queenstown Gardens, this amazing spot gives people the chance to go outdoors, share a good laugh with friends, family and even new acquaintances while enjoying the breathtaking beauty of Lake Wakatipu.
Inaugurated in the late 80s, it consists of the same rules as Golf. For those who are not familiar with this rules, here’s a quick breakdown; Each hole starts with a “tee-off” with the objective of getting to the basket in as little throws as possible. The 18 holes that form the whole course have determined pars or “throws” (e.g.; Hole 5 is par 3 = You have 3 throws to put your Frisbee in the basket). The objective of the par is to keep count of the throws taken, the lowest score becomes the winner, heads up, it can get competitive, it will get competitive.
So whenever you find yourself wondering what activity can you afford, maybe stretch your legs, sharpen your throwing arm and gather your crew, a good time is guaranteed. A pro tip is to go to any hostel to borrow a Frisbee or pop into an outdoors shop to buy one. Oh yeah, don’t forget there are many types of Frisbees that cover different ranges of distance. Another tip? And this is the best tip I can share from experience; bring along some drinks, it’s always good to share some cold ones while playing by the lake, since drinking in public is allowed until 10pm, they’ll make you play better or soften the blow of the score.
I hope you enjoy this great activity which will quickly become your favourite if it’s not already on the top of your “To Do” list.
